Board of Finance approves flat $39.55 million education budget

Board of Finance · Meeting of August 10, 2026

CT EAST HAMPTON — East Hampton Board of Finance approves flat $39.55 million education budget for fourth referendum. The board voted unanimously (7-0) to maintain the 2026-2027 education budget at $39,550,937, matching the amount approved in the third referendum, said Chairman Anthony Spagnoletti. The decision was supported by the reinstatement of the Smart Start program through a state grant and middle school sports through community donations, effectively recovering major cuts without increasing the overall budget.

Superintendent Dr. Timothy Van Tasel answered board questions about the grant and donation timing, as well as the interplay between operating budget, state grants, capital, and special revenue accounts.
