Council rescinds town meeting after attorney denies municipal authority

CT EAST HAMPTON — East Hampton Council rescinds planned town meeting on property purchase after attorney ruling. The Town Council voted 5-1 to rescind a resolution calling for a town meeting to authorize acquisition of property at 292 West High Street for wastewater facility expansion, after Town Attorney Richard D. Carella issued an opinion determining that the WPCA/Joint Facilities, not the Town Council or town meeting, holds statutory authority over the purchase under Connecticut law.
Council Member Ted Hintz Jr. voted against rescission. Eight residents provided public comment opposing the project, citing concerns about WPCA administration and environmental and traffic impacts.
