CT EAST HAMPTON — Planning and Zoning Commission continues hearing on West High Street residential-to-commercial zone change. Attorney Kenneth Barber, representing property owner William House, argued the 17-acre parcel at 200 West High Street should be rezoned to support economic development despite infrastructure constraints; nine residents spoke against the change, citing wetlands impacts, incompatibility with the residential neighborhood, and lack of a specific development plan. Planning and Zoning Official Juliet Hodge reported the 2016 Plan of Conservation and Development does not identify the area for commercial expansion and recent community feedback generally opposes sprawling commercial development.
Commission members voted 7-0 to continue the hearing to June 3, 2026. In other business, the Commission approved a Clynk curbside recycling station site plan modification at 11 East High Street with a 6-1 vote and unanimously scheduled a public hearing for Lakewood Estates LLC zoning regulation amendments relating to Housing Opportunity Development requirements.
