Planning & Zoning Commission denies Housing Opportunity Development amendment

CT EAST HAMPTON — Planning & Zoning Commission voted 6-1 to deny an application by Lakewood Estates, LLC to reduce acreage and open space requirements for Housing Opportunity Development projects. Chair Ray Zatorski oversaw a packed public hearing featuring dueling attorneys, roughly two dozen residents, and one formal environmental petition objecting to the amendment on grounds including overdevelopment, stormwater impacts to Lake Pocotopaug, and inconsistency with the ongoing Plan of Conservation and Development update. Member Robert Perreault moved for denial, seconded by Member Roy Gauthier, with Vice Chair Michael Kowalczyk dissenting.
The Commission scheduled two public hearings for July 1: a two-lot re-subdivision at 12 Long Crossing Road and a town text amendment to comply with Connecticut Public Act 25-1 middle housing requirements.
