Town Council Approves Water Authority Restructuring, Defers Farm and Veterans Tax Relief Measures

CT EAST HAMPTON — East Hampton Town Council unanimously adopts water authority restructuring. The seven-member Town Council will now serve as the Water Pollution Control Authority, assuming duties previously held by an independent board, with a Town Manager-appointed Public Utilities Administrator handling day-to-day operations. Council members expressed concerns about workload and expertise but agreed the shift would be temporary.
The Council also accepted the Board of Finance's recommended FY27 budget of $61,011,835, a 4.19 percent increase, and set a public hearing for April 28 before the budget goes to Town Meeting and Referendum. The Council tabled a Right to Farm Ordinance, a veterans' tax relief measure, and a broader tax relief expansion proposal, citing need for additional information and study.
